WOLFSBURG (dpa-AFX) - Volkswagen is inviting its shareholders to its annual general meeting on Friday (10 a.m.). Group CEO Oliver Blume will have to face questions from shareholders about the crisis facing the group and the austerity measures it has introduced. Europe's largest carmaker agreed on tough cuts at its core VW brand at the end of 2024 after lengthy negotiations with the IG Metall union.
As was the case last year, the meeting will again be held entirely online. This has long been criticized by shareholder representatives. One shareholder has even submitted a motion to ban purely digital meetings by amending the articles of association. VW last welcomed its shareholders in person two years ago, but then returned to the virtual format. VW officially justified this with cost reasons. /fjo/DP/jha
