BERLIN--Volkswagen AG said Monday that it would invest in six large battery factories and build out battery-charging infrastructure to keep pace with Europe's booming electric-vehicle market.

Volkswagen said it would build together with partners six battery factories in Europe with total capacity of 240 GWh, and expand five-fold the number of high-speed charging stations for electric cars. VW is also restructuring its partnership with Northvolt AB, the Swedish battery maker, and taking control of their battery joint-venture in Salzgitter, Germany.
