LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) _ W.W. Grainger Inc. (GWW) on Wednesday reported fourth-quarter net income of $168 million.

On a per-share basis, the Lake Forest, Illinois-based company said it had net income of $3.12. Earnings, adjusted for restructuring costs, came to $3.66 per share.

The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $3.79 per share.

The seller of maintenance and other supplies posted revenue of $2.94 billion in the period, which beat Street forecasts. Six analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $2.91 billion.

For the year, the company reported profit of $695 million, or $12.82 per share. Revenue was reported as $11.8 billion.

W.W. Grainger shares have fallen roughly 9% since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has risen nearly 2%. The stock has increased 23% in the last 12 months.
