Shares of Walgreens Boots Alliance fell after the Justice Department sued the company for allegedly helping to fuel the opioid crisis.
The company's stock fell 9% to $11.39 after the market closed Friday. It is down 43% over the past 12 months.
The DOJ said the pharmacy and retail chain filled prescriptions that lacked a legitimate medical purpose, which included excessive quantities and early refills of opioids.
Walgreens responded by saying it stands behind its pharmacists.
Walgreens and its competitor CVS have paid hundreds of millions of dollars to settle other allegations related to the opioid crisis.
