Climate-improved concrete is an important success factor in the work with Wallenstam's climate targets. The initiative to use climate-improved concrete has meant that the Group now sees large emission differences in projects where traditional concrete has been replaced. Starting from 2019, CO2 emissions from the construction operations have to date decreased by 7.9 percent per newly produced square meter. The goal is that the reduction should be 10 percent through next year.
"The driving force and sustainability initiatives in the organization are very inspiring. Many are contributing to the climate target work. As a company, we also participate, along with several other property companies in Gothenburg in the "Handslaget" (Handshake) initiative, with the aim of increasing recycling in the industry," says Karin Mizgalski, Sustainability Manager at Wallenstam.
Other contributing factors to Wallenstam's reduction in CO2 emissions in its new construction operations are, for example, analysis and optimization of design, frames and choice of materials already during the planning phase.
The next step in the sustainability work for Wallenstam is new Science Based Targets aligned with the Paris Climate Agreement. The company has applied to the global climate action partnership - The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Pending validation of the targets, the work is continuing on the previously adopted climate targets in the current business plan.
