--Walmart Inc. on Friday told employees that it will expand abortion and travel coverage for employees, CNBC reported, citing an internal memo.

--Effective immediately, the retail giant's healthcare plans will cover abortion "when there is a health risk to the mother, rape or incest, ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage or lack of fetal viability," the report said.

--Employees and their family members who are insured through Walmart also will have travel costs covered if they can't access a legal abortion within 100 miles of their location, CNBC reported, citing an email sent by the company's Chief People Officer Donna Morris.

--Walmart didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from Dow Jones Newswires.
