The Finnish trade union Pro has announced a new strike in the technology industry between February 24 and 28.
The strike affects several large listed companies such as Nokia, Metso, Valmet, Ponsse and Wärtsilä. The union is now stepping up its action after five months of fruitless negotiations on the collective agreement.
Already in mid-January, redundancy notices were reported in both the engineering and chemical sectors. At that time, it was mentioned that strikes could affect shifts from February 3 to 8 at companies such as Bayer, Kemira, Neste, Orion, Kone and Konecranes. The latest update mentions three companies as still affected: Bayer, Neste and Kone.
Wärtsilä Oyj is an industrial group organized around 3 families of products:
- maritime equipment (50.5% of net sales; No. 1 worldwide): maneuvering and propulsion systems, inspection and anti-leak systems, etc. intended for ships and offshore platforms. The group also offers maintenance, equipment installation, machine service, spare parts supply, technical assistance, training services, etc.;
- equipment for energy generation and storage (39.7%): motors, pumps, generators, modular systems and industrial equipment intended for power stations, gas and oil plants. The group also offers engineering services and builds turn-key industrial plants;
