Sustainable Mobility for Italy: Webuild launches rebranding of high-speed/high-capacity railway construction sites

MILAN, April 21, 2021 - Webuild has launched a rebranding campaign at the work sites of its sustainable mobility projects in Italy to emphasize the role that infrastructure can play in reviving the economy and creating employment. The projects being developed by the Group will allow for the transport of people and goods at faster speeds, contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions and make the country more efficient and competitive. They also support Webuild's supply chain of more than 7,000 businesses.

The campaign will begin at the site of the doubling of the Bicocca-Catenanuova section of the Palermo-Catania high-capacity railway. It will then proceed to rebrand the Naples-Cancello and Apice-Hirpina lots of the high-speed/high-capacity railway being built between Naples and Bari; the Terzo Valico dei Giovi, Genoa Hub and Campasso rail projects; as well as the Third Mega Lot of the 106 Ionian Highway. These projects give work to more than 4,200 people.

A year after adopting Webuild as its new name, the Group's Brand Architecture campaign will have its construction sites replace their separate identities with a single brand, the latest in an effort to communicate more effectively with the communities where Webuild operates and bring its activities closer to the public in the upmost transparency. The model was applied during the construction of the Genova San Giorgio Bridge, showing how public works can be built in an efficient and transparent way.

Work on the Bicocca-Catenanuova section, which is 38 kilometres long, will double the current single track in order to allow trains to travel up to 180 kilometres per hour from the current 90 kilometres. It will allow trains to travel between Catania and Palermo in less than two hours. The project employs 430 people directly and indirectly, with Webuild working closely with 193 suppliers and subcontractors, all of which are Italian. Also in Sicily, the Group recently won a €1.003-billion contract to double the high-capacity railway between Messina and Catania along the Giampilieri-Fiumefreddo section, known as the Second Functional Taormina-Giampilieri Lot. It is the latest project on the island awarded to Webuild to support the development of sustainable mobility and provide work to the local supply chain.
