(Alliance News) - Webuild Spa announced Tuesday that it has been awarded a USD152.0 million, EUR137.0 million contract, through its subsidiary USA Lane, to upgrade Interstate 77 in South Carolina, USA.
The project, commissioned by the South Carolina Department of Transportation, supports the development of the new plant of Scout Motors, a subsidiary of Volkswagen, intended to employ up to 4,000 people.
The contract includes the design and construction of interchanges, four bridges, access ramps, and a new road connecting I-77 and U.S. Route 21. In addition, a 4.8-mile stretch of I-77 is planned to be widened to three lanes. The goal is to improve local mobility and support regional economic growth.
With this project, Lane brings to more than EUR1.00 billion the value of contracts acquired or being finalized in the year, consolidating North America as a strategic market for Webuild, which recorded 13 percent of group revenues in the region as of June 30.
Webuild's stock is down 1.1 percent to EUR2.84 per share.
