Urban renewal, regional regeneration part of Group's sustainability strategy

MILAN, March 22, 2022 - Webuild and its Swiss subsidiary CSC Impresa Costruzioni have delivered Parc du Simplon, an urban renewal project in Renens (Lausanne), Switzerland, for CFF Immobilier, the real estate unit of Swiss railway operator FFS. A residential and commercial district built on a disused railway yard next to the railway station, it is the latest example of the Group's commitment to the sustainable development of communities by means of urban renewal and a circular economy.

Webuild and CSC completed the project on time in a mere three years despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Of the 180 suppliers and service providers involved in the development of the district, more than 70% were local, with more than 1,000 workers engaged during the life of the project.

Situated less than 5 kilometres from the centre of Lausanne, the district includes two office buildings to be occupied by FFS, and eight residential buildings with a combined total of 200 apartments.

Awarded the "Minergie P" Swiss certification for sustainability, the office buildings are built according to the principles of a circular economy. They contain reusable materials and have solar panels on their rooftops that will produce approximately 50% of their electricity needs.

Parc du Simplon follows a series of green buildings developed by Webuild. In November, the Group delivered the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor, Doha. Built to host 2022 FIFA World Cup games, the innovative sports complex distinguishes itself as a model of best practice in the use of materials from renewable sources, as well as the reduction of the impact it will have on the environment.

Under its 2021-2023 ESG Plan, Webuild has set a series of targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by investing in innovative projects with high potential in terms of sustainability to support client efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations.

In January 2022, Webuild reinforced its commitment to sustainability by successfully placing its first sustainability-linked bondfor €400 million. The bond is linked to achieving a 50% reduction in carbon intensity emissions by 2025.

Webuild's projects under development stand to benefit approximately 89 million people with improved access to mobility, renewable energy, water and other infrastructure. Its hydro, metro and railways projects alone will contribute to the reduction of approximately 24 million tonnes of CO2 emissions every year.

In Switzerland, CSC is working on other sustainability projects such as the renovation of historic buildings of the United Nations Palais des Nations in Geneva.
