MILAN, July 28, 2021 - Webuild's construction site where the Genova San Giorgio Bridge was built received the Gold Award 2021 from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Awards, a prestigious recognition from the British institution that values organisations based on their commitment to health and safety in the workplace.

The award, which carries special value given the complexity of the bridge project and the speed of its execution, comes nearly a year after the inauguration of the Genova San Giorgio. Webuild distinguished itself on the construction site by recording more than one million working hours without a case of serious injury and issuing 137 operational safety plans with more than 1,500 subsequent additions. The procedures, protocols and training and information activities enacted on site involved direct and indirect workers. More than 300 suppliers working alongside Webuild also benefited.

The construction site, which remained open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, became a reference model for the construction sector in Italy for the health and safety measures that were adopted - in addition to the way the project was planned and executed, creating a work culture open to innovation, sustainability and safety.

RoSPa's recognition confirms Webuild's excellent standards in terms of health and safety. It also comes a year after the British institution gave Webuild a gold award for its 'Valyou - Our Health and Safety Way' information and training programme following the successful safety performance of its Cityringen project in Copenhagen. At Webuild, guaranteeing the health and safety of workers at its construction sites as well as its head offices is of the upmost priority. This commitment was also expressed by the series of protocols adopted by the Group to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

On the construction site of the Genova San Giorgio Bridge, the Group deployed its Safety Builders Programme with workshops for managers and people in charge of leadership development, training sessions relating to 'safety intervention' matters. It provided enhanced training to supervisors and operators who worked high above the site's grounds. The Group also added to the services of the country's public health system the IAC Emergency System (Internal Aid Coordination), which allowed for expert location site personnel, independent management of small emergencies, training and exercises, and supporting emergency management in tandem with the emergency system at height and confined spaces. A rigorous anti-COVID-19 protocol was also implemented.

Another significant commitment to health and safety displayed by the Group was the use of innovative communication events and employee involvement activities that also invited subcontractors to increase their awareness and enhance the Safety Leader concept.
