West African Resources Limited (WAF or the Company, ASX: WAF) is pleased to announce that Non-executive Director Rod Leonard has accepted the new role of Lead Independent Director on the Company's Board.

The Lead Independent Director is an independent non-executive board role to enhance corporate governance.

In addition to serving on WAF's Board since September 2019, Mr Leonard has 15 years of experience as Executive Director of ASX listed engineering services company, Lycopodium, where he has overseen construction, modification, and maintenance of plant and infrastructure for numerous mineral projects including several in West Africa. Mr Leonard's exceptional background in corporate governance and technical mineral processing is ideally suited for carrying out the mandate of WAF's Lead Independent Director, which involves supporting the Executive Chairman and enhancing the functions of Board by providing an alternative and independent communication channel for board members and shareholders.

The Company also takes this opportunity to acknowledge the departure of Matthew Wilcox last week. Matthew was WAF's Chief Development Officer with responsibility for managing construction of the process plant and infrastructure at WAF's Sanbrado Gold Project. The Board thanks Matthew for his service to the Company and wishes him well in his future endeavours.
