SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (AP) _ Wex Inc. (WEX) on Thursday reported third-quarter profit of $48.3 million.

The South Portland, Maine-based company said it had profit of $1.07 per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to $2.45 per share.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $2.29 per share.

The provider of fuel payment processing for fleet vehicles posted revenue of $482.8 million in the period, which also topped Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $477.9 million.

For the current quarter ending in December, Wex expects its per-share earnings to range from $2.25 to $2.45.

The company said it expects revenue in the range of $468 million to $483 million for the fiscal fourth quarter.

Wex expects full-year earnings in the range of $8.81 to $9.01 per share, with revenue ranging from $1.82 billion to $1.84 billion.
