Brick Award: International Jury selecting shortlist projects
22. July 2021
Selection process for shortlist projects started
Expert jury made out of five renown international architects
Vienna - A record number of 789 projects from 53 countries has been submitted to the Brick Award 22. The 10th Brick Award has had the highest number of entries in its history, demonstrating the internationality of this architecture prize. Now, the selection process for the 50 shortlist projects in the five categories has started.
The selection process is taking place in two steps. In a first one, the pre-jury - deciding on the shortlist of the 50 most innovative projects is made up following a rotating system, thus assuring view points from people from different countries and cultures. This year it consisted of the three architectural journalists Anneke Bokern from the Netherlands, Christian Holl from Germany as well as Andres Kurg from Estonia.
Five categories are assigned to the Brick Award, within each of them a category price will be awarded, next to the overall winner.
Assessment criteria include innovative design and architecture concept, skillful and innovative use of bricks as well as architecture quality in terms of aesthetics, shape and configuration of the project. Special attention is also directed to the adequacy of the project in relation to its intended purpose, building type and cultural context, as well as to sustainability and energy efficiency aspects.
