Wizz Air further grows its network from Italy to the total of 279 routes, operating the largest ever schedule in summer 2023 and reinforcing its position as the third largest airline in the country
Wizz Air, Italy's third largest airline and most environmentally sustainable airline globally*, announces today further expansion from Italy, allocating three of its newest Airbus A321neo aircraft to its Italian bases: two to Rome Fiumicino and one to Milan Malpensa. The allocation of additional aircraft is enabling the launch of four new routes, starting from summer 2023, as well as increased frequency on two routes. The tickets are already available at wizzair.com or on the Wizz Air's mobile app.
The allocation of two more aircraft in Rome Fiumicino base will grow Wizz Air's base to 11 aircraft. The move brings the total number of the airline's routes from Rome to 67 in summer 2023, including two newly launched. Passengers will now be able to fly with Wizz Air from Rome to Funchal (Madeira, Portugal) and Memmingen (Germany). Furthermore, the additional capacity allows Wizz Air to increase the frequency of its flights from its Rome base to Barcelona (Spain), Paris Orly (France), Dortmund (Germany) and Prague (Czech Republic).
Milan Malpensa will receive one additional aircraft, making it a seven aircraft base. Wizz Air will introduce two new routes to Abu Dhabi (the UAE) and Madrid (Spain), starting from July 2023. With this expansion the airline will operate the total of 37 routes from Milan Malpensa to 22 countries in Europe and the Middle East.
Additionally, Wizz Air launches a new route from Rome to Vilnius (Lithuania) operated by its Vilnius-based aircraft, making it a total of five new routes available for Wizz Air passengers in Italy this summer.

Wizz Air's continued focus on providing its customers low-cost and varied routes across its network means that the airline has taken the decision to close its base at Bari Airport. From 16 February 2023, the aircraft that are currently based there will be redeployed to support the expansion in Rome and Milan. With these allocations, despite a few flights from Bari being cancelled, the Wizz Air network in Italy grows by 26 flights to a total of 2402 flights per week.
The airline will continue to fly to Bari Airport and serve its passengers with flights from Budapest (Hungary), Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iasi, Timisoara (Romania), Tirana (Albania), Warsaw, Wroclaw (Poland), ensuring it can continue serving its loyal customers.
