Suzanne Konstance, Vice President, Product Management and Marketing for Wolters Kluwer Lien Solutions, will offer insights for risk management professionals on managing their risk appetite statements (RAS) at the Risk Management Association’s Governance, Compliance, and Operational Risk Conference 15 (GCOR XV), June 7-10. Her presentation, “Strengthen Your Lines of Defense: The Value of Lien Monitoring for a Bulletproof RAS,” will take place Tuesday, June 8, at 4:30 EDT.

Lien imperfection comes in many different forms and can introduce significant hidden risk to a lending operation. Based on its analysis of public Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) data, Wolters Kluwer Lien Solutions has found that approximately 20 percent of all commercial loans are at risk due to errors with the UCC filings intended to secure them.

“My presentation aims to teach risk officers how to more effectively work with their operations teams to quantify loan portfolio risk—and to provide real-world examples of what can happen when lien management falters,” said Konstance. “I want to demonstrate how technology that leverages AI and automation strengthens an organization’s lines of defense and informs a strong risk appetite statement.”

The presentation will focus on the importance of monitoring and reviewing lien perfection for the businesses and products that risk managers oversee, highlighting the importance of consolidating the view of an organization’s liens and their combined risk. It will also illustrate how an end-to-end lien management system can help ensure accuracy and simplify loan portfolio reviews.
