Koch Project Solutions, LLC has awarded Worley a services contract for a new renewable fuels plant called Carbon Zero 1. The plant will be owned and operated by Aemetis. The Carbon Zero 1 plant will combine low-carbon feedstocks with renewable hydrogen, produced by gasification of woody biomass waste that is otherwise combusted, to produce low-carbon fuels. Located in Riverbank, California, the plant has a planned capacity of 170 million litres per year of renewable jet and diesel fuel. This fuel can be used in airplane, truck and ship fleets without requiring engine modifications. Under the contract, Worley will provide front-end engineering and design (FEED) services including the project's cost estimate. Worley's scope includes feedstock handling, biomass gasification, hydrogen production and purification, hydrotreating of vegetable oils, and supporting systems and utilities. The services will be executed by Worley's US West offices with support from Worley's Global Integrated Delivery team in India. The FEED phase of the project is expected to be completed by late 2021.
