Together to Fight COVID-19 & Protect Taiwan, Yuanta FHC & Its Major Shareholder, the Ma Family, Make a Joint Donation of NTD 160 million.

The COVID-19 pandemic in Taiwan is becoming increasingly severe, causing tension in medical resources and serious physical and mental strain on health care workers, and the front line of epidemic prevention is facing emergency pressure on the verge of collapse. The Yuanta Group, which has always been on the forefront of public welfare, announced today (May 27, 2021) that it will donate NTD 160 million (~USD 5.76 million) to the frontline medical system in solidarity with the Taiwan government and to do its part in preventing the epidemic for all.

Yuanta Financial Holding Company (FHC) expresses, as a national financial institution, it shares the same life with everyone who lives on the same island and will not stay out of it. In addition to the financial holding related subsidiaries jointly donated NTD 100 million, the investment companies of Yuanta's major shareholder, the Ma family, gives another NTD 60 million to the Yuanta Cultural and Educational Foundation on behalf of the joint donation. A total of NTD 160 million will be contributed this time. The recipients are mainly three national medical systems, including the Ministry of Health and Welfare Hospital System, the National Taiwan University (NTU) School of Medicine Affiliated Hospital System, and the Veterans General Hospital System, totaling NTD 150 million. Furthermore, since Taipei City has become a hardest hit area of COVID-19, NTD 10 million of the NTD 60 million donated by the Ma family will be earmarked for the Mackay Memorial Hospital, one of the designated isolation and response hospitals for major infectious diseases in Taipei.

The donation will be used entirely for epidemic prevention, primarily for the emergency purchase of relevant medical equipment and the direct medical care of battle-zone medical and epidemic prevention personnel. Yuanta FHC hopes that through the support of the ground-zero medical system, we can inject tangible strength into the prevention of COVID-19 for the whole population and join hands with the government to fight against the pandemic, trusting that the Taiwan society will soon be free from the epidemic alert and return to normal life.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare Hospital System, constituted by specialized hospitals under the central government for epidemic prevention, is not only responsible for treating patients with COVID-19, but also for the capacity of quarantine facilities throughout Taiwan, and there is an urgent need for 3,500 additional centralized quarantine facilities. The Veterans General Hospital System has a large-scale facility that can support the adjustment of beds and medical capacity. The important mission of the NTU School of Medicine Affiliated Hospital System is to treat patients with acute and severe COVID-19 symptoms. The superintendent of NTU Hospital even issued a public plea for help, 'The hospital is in urgent need. I hope that the central government will give the hospital sufficient resources or subsidies, not to let the frontline medical care become bare-handed and exhausted.' Yuanta FHC is determined to do its part in the fight against COVID-19 by protecting Taiwan's three publicly owned healthcare systems and maintaining the energy to fight the pandemic.

No one is an outsider on this road to fight COVID-19. Donations for domestic social welfare agencies have shrunk dramatically after the outbreak of COVID-19. In 2020, Yuanta FHC and its subsidiaries donated NTD 120 million to issue the 'Economy Revitalization Love Card' with a face value of NTD 3,000 each to seven social welfare organizations, including Taiwan Fund for Children and Families, benefiting more than 100,000 recipients in total. In the spirit of 'If others are hungry, I am also hungry; if others drown, I will also drown,' Yuanta once again contributes NTD160 million to fulfill its corporate social responsibility.
