We're grateful for everyone who played a critical role in fighting the pandemic, from medical professionals on the front lines; to researchers developing the vaccine; to essential workers all along the supply chain; to individuals delivering meals, sewing masks, and making people smile in their own communities.

So many of our customers stepped up in extraordinary ways. By activating their networks, leveraging their resources, and sharing their expertise, these organizations had a massive impact on the global collective effort against the coronavirus.

Our Delivering Hope Awards, which we announced at Zoomtopia 2021, honor our customers who are keeping people safe, curtailing the spread of COVID-19, and delivering hope when we all need it most.

Manufacturing essential equipment

As hospitals and health systems grappled with an influx of COVID-19 patients, many struggled with shortages of ventilators and personal protective equipment (PPE), such as masks and face shields. Organizations immediately pivoted to meet the need with innovative solutions, and mass production of supplies, PPE, and other life-saving equipment.

Global power leader Cummins used its filter technology to provide 146 metric tons of filtration media for mask manufacturers around the world, enough to make more than 108 million masks to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. Cummins also began manufacturing its own masks at company plants for employees to help protect its essential workforce.

Medtronic Video: Sean Lennon, CIO at Medtronic

Realizing a collaborative approach was essential to defeating the virus, Medtronic publicly shared the design specifications for its Puritan Bennett™ 560 ventilator with more than 100,000 registrants, helping to accelerate meaningful progress around ventilator production. Medtronic also collaborated with organizations to develop PPE, including designing a 3D-printed face shield and donating its printers and printing staff to the cause.

Making historical advances in vaccine development

We were amazed by the companies that worked at an unprecedented speed to develop, test, and manufacture a COVID-19 vaccine, which would become critical to fighting the global pandemic.

Pfizer and BioNTech leveraged decades of scientific expertise and mobilization of resources to develop the world's first COVID-19 vaccine that was approved for emergency use in December 2020. With one of the most sophisticated supply chain systems in the industry, Pfizer has shipped more than 1 billion doses since last December and is projected to produce up to 3 billion doses in 2021, supplying vaccines to more than 120 countries.

'This award is appropriately named and with it, we honor the medical professionals, scientists, and everyone who stood on the frontline in the battle against COVID-19,' said Lidia Fonseca, chief digital and technology officer and executive vice president at Pfizer. 'COVID-19 accelerated our digital implementation and deploying Zoom Enterprise technology allowed our colleagues to be flexible, efficient, and remain connected with healthcare professionals in a critical time.'

Powering the global supply chain

Shipping and distribution companies were a vital part of the global supply chain. Not only did they help keep the world moving, they delivered vaccines, PPE, and other life-saving equipment to the people that needed it.

Cardinal Health

Cardinal Health, a distributor of pharmaceutical products and a global manufacturer and distributor of medical and laboratory products, is a crucial link between the clinical and operational sides of healthcare, working to help advance healthcare and improve lives every day. Its government collaboration includes working with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to support federal and state response efforts. Cardinal Health can provide rapid deployment and delivery of Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) product throughout the U.S. and its territories, as directed by the U.S. government, to assist with critical PPE needs in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

'Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Cardinal Health has been working around the clock to meet the needs of our customers and to quickly get critical medicines and supplies into the hands of those who need them most,' said Steve Mason, Medical Segment CEO at Cardinal Health. 'Our mission is more important than ever, and we are honored to serve our customers and help them safely care for the patients who depend on them.'

FedEx Video: Rob Carter, CIO at FedEx Corporation

FedEx, the world's largest transportation services company, has transported more than 187 million COVID-19 vaccines with rigorous storage and handling requirements, moving them rapidly and reliably to their destinations. Their impact went beyond vaccine delivery to powering the global supply chain, shipping nearly 100 kilotons of PPE (including more than 2 billion masks), and life-saving medical equipment around the world.

Removing barriers to make vaccinations possible

As the COVID-19 vaccine became available, many individuals faced barriers to getting access to the shot, ranging from transportation issues to lack of access. We applaud organizations helping to overcome those challenges, especially in underserved areas of the country.

Every year, millions of Americans delay care or miss medical appointments because of a lack of transportation. Recognizing that transportation shouldn't be a barrier to vaccination, Uber donated 10 million rides to help people get to vaccination sites.

Walmart's vast network of stores became access sites for vaccine administration in hard-to-reach communities across the U.S. Walmart is administering vaccines in all of its more than 5,100 pharmacies in stores and clubs across 48 states, Puerto Rico, and Washington, D.C., and set up dedicated events to serve those in medically underserved areas.

Keeping the world informed

Accurate, trusted information was and continues to be vital to fighting COVID-19. Many organizations played a key role in keeping the public informed and reducing the spread of the coronavirus.

Austrian Red Cross Video: Josef Schmoll, President at Rotes Kreuz Landesverband Niederösterreich

Rotes Kreuz Landesverband Niederösterreich (the Austrian Red Cross regional branch of lower Austria), is a shining example of the role of local government in keeping citizens informed. This agency used Zoom to educate and inform the public about COVID-19, building an entire studio to deliver high-quality content, which aired on social media. The Austrian Red Cross continues to use Zoom on a daily basis - to recruit new volunteers, educate and train its workforce, and provide continual health guidance.
