GDANSK, July 22 (Reuters) - Zurich Insurance Group "categorically denies" any interest for Italian asset gatherer FinecoBank, a spokesperson for the Swiss insurer said on Monday, dismissing a press report.
Shares in Fineco rose on Monday after daily Il Messaggero at the weekend reiterated speculation about a potential offer for Fineco from the Swiss group, which is headed by veteran Italian executive and former Generali CEO Mario Greco.
Daily Il Sole 24 Ore last week also reported of potential Zurich interest for Fineco, which has a market value of 9.65 billion euros ($10.50 billion). Both papers said Zurich could team up with private equity funds.
