THE LAZIO REGION AND TERNA SIGN AGREEMENT TO MONITOR RENEWABLE CONNECTION REQUESTS

Goal: optimise planning information flow for new electricity infrastructure

Rome, 17 May 2024 - The Lazio Region and Terna, the company led by Giuseppina Di Foggia, signed a memorandum of understanding on the operational aspects of their partnership. The goal is to improve the planning and placement of new electricity infrastructure in the area and coordinate the development of works to meet the environmental and energy targets outlined in Italy's regional environmental energy plan.

In particular, through an exchange of information and data, it will be possible to monitor grid connection requests for renewable systems.

The terms of the five-year agreement include creating a control room to address specific topics, as well as roundtables on exchanging data, consultation, managing local requirements and regulatory clarification. A new digital platform will be the main channel used to exchange information with institutions (regional authorities, MASE, and ARERA). Terna will digitise status data for renewable production plants and information on the process of connecting to the national transmission grid, significantly cutting administrative time frames.

The Lazio Region and Terna have agreed to foster discussions and participatory planning with local authorities, stakeholders, and the public. The idea is to share decisions about grid development placement, cut project execution times, and guarantee an even more efficient and sustainable electricity grid for the area while respecting the environment and the local cultural heritage.

Thanks to the collaboration with Terna, which I thank for its constant support when drafting the document that we signed, the Region will rely on a useful operating tool for the mutual exchange of information and data. Among other things, the new digital platform will make it possible to rationalise the existing electricity grids, and create a proper regional plan for the delicate balance between the need to develop RES and the fair principle of limiting land take".
