CALGARY, Alberta (AP) _ Suncor Energy Inc. (SU) on Wednesday reported a loss of $1.77 billion in its fourth quarter.

The Calgary, Alberta-based company said it had a loss of $1.15 per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to 39 cents per share.

The results missed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 50 cents per share.

The energy company posted revenue of $7.27 billion in the period.

For the year, the company reported profit of $2.2 billion, or $1.41 per share. Revenue was reported as $29.54 billion.

Suncor Energy shares have declined 6% since the beginning of the year. The stock has dropped almost 7% in the last 12 months.
