On May 14, the stop log gate of Unit 5 of Wudongde Power Station was successfully lifted, marking the successful completion of the 2023 stratified intake ecological operation experiment for the 4 cascade reservoirs downstream of the Jinsha River jointly operated by CYPC.

The stratified intake ecological operation experiment is an important measure for promoting the breeding of fish producing adhesive and demersal eggs in the cascade reservoirs downstream of the Jinsha River. By operating the stop log gate to allow the unit to get the upper and middle layer of water, and regulating the discharged water temperature of the reservoir, necessary water temperature conditions are created for fish breeding. This experiment was conducted in three stages: implementation, operation, and completion, covering a total of 37 units from the Wudongde, Baihetan, and Xiluodu left bank power stations, with a total duration of 154 days.

Since the launch of the experiment, CYPC has strengthened communication and coordination with higher-level dispatching agencies, taken into account the requirements for the operating water level of the stop log gate in cascade reservoirs, the demand for power supply, and the annual maintenance schedule of the power station, and reasonably arranged the start and stop of units, and dynamically adjusted the process of implementation and completion the stop log gate to fully ensure the breeding of downstream fish.

In the future, CYPC will scientifically evaluate the effectiveness of this ecological operation experiment, strengthen experience summary, and carry out ecological operation experiments such as artificial flood peak and prevention and control of water bloom to give full play to the ecological benefits of cascade reservoirs, improve the health of the Yangtze River water ecosystem, and make due contributions to promoting the sustainable development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
