The world's largest electric cruise ship with the largest electricity carrying capacity achieves significant emission reduction benefits

2023-04-03

On March 29, the Yangtze River Three Gorges No. 1, the world's largest pure electric cruise ship with the largest electricity carrying capacity, ushered in its first anniversary of navigation. Data shows that over the past year, the ship has achieved significant environmental protection benefits, receiving over 130,000 tourists on a single ship, consuming over 900,000 kWh of electricity, and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by over 700 tons.

As a high-tech ship research project of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China, and a pilot project of the Ministry of Transport to strengthen transportation, the "Yangtze River Three Gorges No. 1" pure electric cruise ship was jointly developed and built by CYPC under China Three Gorges Corporation and Hubei Three Gorges Tourism Group under Yichang Urban Development Group, jointly participated by multiple domestic research institutes and enterprises in China. With a length of 100 m, a width of 16.3 m, and a height of four-storey building, the ship is designed to carry 1,300 passengers, and is the first electric ship in the world that adopts high-voltage charging and low-voltage power supplementing scheme, effectively solving the charging problem of high-power ports. It can continue the journey of 100 km after one charging. It is driven by clean hydropower from the Three Gorges Power Station, and is an environmentally friendly and energy-saving green ship, which successfully made its maiden voyage on March 29, 2022. Compared with traditional cruise ships of the same type, the "Three Gorges No. 1" has higher propulsive efficiency, lower energy consumption, and higher utilization.

The "Yangtze River Three Gorges No. 1" is an important practice of CYPC in high-quality expansion of new space. In the future, CYPC will closely combine clean energy and green transportation, establish a network for ship charging and exchange that connects rivers and seas, and promote the construction of green water transportation in China, to explore new ways for China Three Gorges Corporation to play a key role in the Yangtze River protection and make contributions to the realization of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals in the transportation field.
