On Thursday March 23, ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) authorized commercial operations of the first 6.2 MW capacity wind turbine at the Santo Agostinho Wind Complex. Situated in the municipalities of Lajes and Pedro Avelino in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, Santo Agostinho will have an installed capacity of 434 MW when concluded, comprising 14 wind farms with a total of 70 wind generator units.

About 22 months have elapsed between the start of work and gradual entry into commercial operations. At an investment of approximately R$ 2.3 billion, the Complex strengthens still further ENGIE's objective of growing in renewables - with Brazil at the core of this strategy.

"The commercial operation of the first Santo Agostinho unit is a landmark event for a large scale operation, to be concluded before the end of 2023 thereby maintaining our commitments and ensuring the benefit of the transmission tariff discount for the Company's customers, a competitive advantage in the free contracting environment" comments Eduardo Sattamini, Chief Executive and Investor Relations Officer at ENGIE Brasil Energia.

Currently, ENGIE Brasil Energia has more than 1.2 GW of installed wind generation capacity in its portfolio. Besides Santo Agostinho's 434 MW to be incorporated in the generator park over the course of the next two years, the Serra do Assuruá project will also bring an additional 846 MW, implementation of which is at an initial stage in the municipality of Gentio do Ouro (BA).

Social projects enhance ENGIE's contribution in the region.

ENGIE is committed to investing in social projects for promoting education, income creation and social wellbeing in the cities where its projects are installed. In Santo Agostinho, 21 projects have already been contemplated, amounting to approximately R$ 4 million in private social investment. Of particular note among the main projects supported in Lajes and Pedro Avelino is the construction of a Multi-Purpose Center at a cost of R$ 1.4 million as well as the modernization of the 03 de Agosto, Distrito de Firmamento and Rio do Feijão community centers. Investments were also made in educational programs with the donation of 133 tablets to the benefit of approximately 500 students in Pedro Avelino's municipal education network.
