Guaranty Trust Bank Plc reported un-audited group and parent earnings results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2016. For the quarter, the group reported interest income of NGN 55,833 million compared to NGN 54,951 million, net interest income of NGN 40,794 million compared to NGN 39,163 million, profit before income tax of NGN 30,676 million compared to NGN 32,653 million and profit attributable to equity holders of the parent entity of NGN 25,397 million or NGN 0.90 per share compared to NGN 26,372 million or NGN 0.94 per share for the last year. ROE (post-tax) was 24.19% compared to 29.03%, ROA (post-tax) 3.96% compared to 4.39%, ROE (pre-tax) was 28.97% compared to 35.69% and ROA (pre-tax) 4.74% compared to 5.40% for the last year.
For the quarter, the parent reported interest income of NGN 49,296 million compared to NGN 49,437 million, net interest income of NGN 36,270 million compared to NGN 35,479 million, profit before income tax of NGN 28,008 million compared to NGN 30,251 million and profit attributable to equity holders of the parent entity of NGN 23,527 million compared to NGN 25,108 million for the last year.
The group announced loan impairment charges for the first quarter of 2016 of NGN 3,386 million compared to NGN 3,526 million and the parent company announced loan impairment charges of NGN 3,010 million compared to NGN 3,501 million for the last year.
Guaranty Trust Holding Company plc is a financial holding company structured around 5 areas of business activity:
- merchant banking (54.8% of turnover). The group also offers electronic payment and online banking services;
- retail banking (29.8%): sale of conventional and specialized banking products and services (management of current, savings and overdraft accounts; management of pension funds; issuance of credit and debit cards; consumer credit; home loans and mortgages; etc.);

The geographical breakdown of the turnover is as follows: Nigeria (80.6%), Ghana (8.8%), Kenya (2.3%), Africa (7.2%) and United Kingdom (1.1%).
