Residents of the brand-new Leeds rental neighbourhood Moda, New York Square were welcomed through the doors of Sainsbury's newest Local this morning, following the opening of the retailer's latest store in the heart of Leeds.

The 2,355 sq. ft. store is conveniently located in a brand-new building in the SOYO Leeds regeneration area and will serve the local community between 7am to 11pm, seven days a week. Customers will be able to pick up high quality, great value grocery and household essentials from fresh fruit & veg and food-to-go, to sweet, savoury and frozen staples. They can also enjoy a hot drink from a self-service Costa coffee machine in the store.

A Click & Collect service will also be available for customers to pick up online orders from the much-loved brands of Argos, Habitat and Tu Clothing.

The colleagues that make up the new store team will play an active role in the local community whilst also taking part in Sainsbury's nationwide charitable programmes and initiatives. For example, through Sainsbury's partnership with Neighbourly, the new store will work with local food donation partners to help ensure that any surplus food from the store will go to those who need it most.

Moda, New York Square is a major new residential neighbourhood within SOYO Leeds, with 515 new homes exclusively for rent alongside a host of amenities including a 24/7 gym, private dining room, resident lounges, roof terraces, co-working space and a cinema room. Homes at the pet-friendly neighbourhood, operated by Moda Living, come with interior designed, sustainable furnishings and energy efficient electronics and appliances.

Patrick Dunne, Sainsbury's Property Director, said:
"The vibrant new SOYO neighbourhood in Leeds city centre is the perfect location for us to open our newest store and we're delighted to be cutting the ribbon today. Not only will we be helping and serving local residents but we're also creating new jobs for the area. We've invested in the SOYO store to create a fresh, modern and convenient place for local residents to pick up their essentials and we're looking forward to hearing what they think."

Dane Underwood, Sainsbury's SOYO Local Store Manager, said: "We're proud to welcome customers through the doors of our brand-new store today after working so hard to get everything ready for the opening. The Moda, New York Square development is an exciting location to be in and we're looking forward to becoming a part of the local community and serving nearby residents for many years to come."

Louise Benatmane, General Manager at Moda, New York Square, added:
"It's fantastic to welcome Sainsbury's to Moda, New York Square. The new store will support our residents and local community by providing fresh, healthy choices right on their doorstep, empowering wellbeing with convenience. We look forward to working with Sainsbury's in the coming years as the store becomes an important part of our community here in Leeds."

Sainsbury's recently announced that it is investing a further £185 million in colleague pay, leading the industry in paying the living wage across the country. This latest pay rise was on top of the £20 million Sainsbury's invested in October, bringing the overall total to £205 million and recognising the extraordinary hard work of colleagues.
