Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) welcomed participants in the first part of an experience-sharing programme on the production of hot-rolled sheet for managers and specialists from plants all across Russia, which began today in Magnitogorsk.

Around forty specialists from a number of Russian metallurgical companies are taking part in the programme, as well as representatives of the Chermetcom trading company, which has been organising similar events since 2000. In addition to representatives of MMK, specialists from Novolipetsk Steel, the Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant, Severstal, Vyksa Steel Works, Ural Steel and other companies will also be taking part.

The extensive programme for the two-day event includes visits to a number of MMK's production facilities, including rolling divisions specialising in the production of hot-rolled sheet, the production areas of rolling shops No. 4 and No. 10, as well as MMK's heavy-plate production facility. Participants will also visit MMK's Science and Technology Museum and get a tour of Attraction Park, a unique multifunctional space and one of the largest urban transformation projects in the country. The project was initiated by Viktor Rashnikov, Chairman of MMK's Board of Directors, who is also the project's primary investor.

In addition to visiting facilities producing hot-rolled sheet, participants will exchange their impressions, discuss topics of interest as well as key issues relating to the rolling process, including the use of computational models and calculation methodologies for the rolling process, maintenance and repair procedures, the reduction of consumption rates, and more. In addition, they will share their problem-solving experience and discuss ways to make production processes more efficient.

The quarterly event is being held for the 126th time. Each event is dedicated to a particular aspect of the operations of a metallurgical enterprise and consists of several stages that are hosted by different companies in succession. Upon completion of the Magnitogorsk stage, the event will continue in Cherepovets and Lipetsk.
