UNTERFÖHRING (dpa-AFX) - ProSiebenSat.1 is expanding its streaming service Joyn to Switzerland. The free platform will be launched there in June, as the media group announced on Wednesday in Unterfohring near Munich. The Swiss version will offer films, series and shows on demand as well as live programs from TV channels. Joyn is currently available in Germany and Austria.

Unlike other streaming providers, Joyn relies primarily on advertising revenue and reach with a free offering. Revenue from subscribers with Plus content is not the main focus. ProSiebenSat.1 operates 15 free and pay TV stations in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, as can be seen in the latest annual report.

Joyn was initially founded as a joint venture with Warner Bros. Discovery. Years ago, ProSiebenSat.1 then took over all shares. The platform also offers live programs from TV stations of other providers, including public service broadcasters./rin/DP/mis
