From 1977 through 1991, he was associated with the San Francisco and Palo Alto law firm of Cooley Godward Castro Huddleson & Tatum, and was a partner in that firm from 1984 through 1991.
His practice concentrated on estate and tax planning and estate and trust administration, primarily for venture capitalists and founders of emerging companies.
He also represented non-profit organizations, including family foundations and non-profit research organizations.
He graduated magna cum laude with a B.A.
in Economics from Williams College and earned a J.D.
from Stanford Law School.
