Amazon boosts Mississippi data center investment by $12bn
Amazon is ramping up its investment in Mississippi with a further $12bn allocation, as the group forecasts $200bn in global capital expenditures for 2026, primarily driven by data center expansion.
Amazon has announced a further $12bn expansion in Mississippi to develop its data centers, bringing its total investment in the state to $25bn. The group's comprehensive data center operations in Mississippi are expected to create 2,000 skilled jobs, according to the company.
This new phase includes an additional $11bn in Madison County and $1bn in Hinds County to repurpose a former Delphi plant. This comes on top of an initial $10bn investment announced in January 2024 in Madison County, as well as a $3bn commitment unveiled in November 2025 for a new campus in Warren County, near Vicksburg.
As a reminder, Amazon indicated on February 5, during the release of its Q4 2025 results, that it plans to invest approximately $200bn in group-wide capex in 2026. Management specified during the earnings call that these expenditures would be largely directed toward AWS, amid surging demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure.
