:: March 31, 2026
Social media video taken on Tuesday (March 31) showed several Apollo Go robotaxis stranded in the middle of roads with hazard lights flashing, blocking traffic lanes as regular vehicles were forced to navigate around them.
The nighttime footage, filmed from a passing car, captured long lines of vehicles stuck behind the disabled autonomous taxis, with a person walking alongside the congested roadways.
Reuters confirmed the location from road layout, bridge and buildings which matched file and satellite imagery of the area. The exact time when the video was filmed could not be verified, but no older version of video was found posted online before March 31. Vehicles stopped in the middle of the road matched file image of Apollo Go robotaxi. Wuhan Traffic Police wrote in a statement that several Apollo Go robotaxis stopped in the middle of the roads due to system failure on Tuesday evening.
Police received reports late on Tuesday that numerous Apollo Go cars had stopped in the middle of roads in Wuhan and were unable to move, according to an official statement. Passengers were able to exit the vehicles safely and there were no injuries, police said.
Baidu did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
