Ghirardelli is recalling several powdered beverage mixes due to salmonella concerns, following a California Dairies Inc. recall of milk powder, which was supplied to a third-party manufacturer and used as an ingredient.
"Neither we, our third-party manufacturer nor the milk powder supplier have received reports of illness or injury related to this issue to date, and our own rigorous testing has not identified any impacted powdered beverage mixes," Ghirardelli said.
The recalled are items are packaged in large formats intended for food service and institutional customers, but some products may have been available for consumers through e-commerce platforms.
The products include several frappe mixes, a hot cocoa mix and a sweet ground chocolate and cocoa powder item.
Visalia, Calif.-based California Dairies has $4 billion in annual product sales, according to its website. The cooperative's products include milk, butter and the DairyAmerica milk powder brand.
Swiss chocolatier Lindt & Spruengli owns San Leandro, Calif.-based Ghirardelli.
