The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has accused the United States of violating the recently concluded ceasefire less than 24 hours after it took effect. In an online post, he cited a "historical mistrust" of Washington, suggesting that such behavior was part of a long-standing pattern. He denounced several alleged infractions of the commitments made under the agreement.
According to Iranian authorities, these violations reportedly include continued Israeli strikes in Lebanon, a drone intrusion into Iranian airspace, and the refusal to recognize Tehran's right to enrich uranium. In this context, Ghalibaf argued that a ceasefire or further negotiations no longer made sense, questioning the overall viability of the deal.
These tensions arise as the truce notably called for a suspension of US strikes in exchange for guarantees regarding freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. The lack of an immediate response from the White House heightens uncertainty surrounding the durability of the accord, in a conflict with significant regional and global repercussions.
Tehran accuses Washington of violating newly brokered ceasefire
Iran is already denouncing American breaches of the two-week truce. These allegations undermine an agreement that was already on shaky ground.
