Wizz Air said it would push back its plane-order delivery date in a new agreement with Airbus, as the budget airliner says it is looking to take a more sustainable and profitable approach to growth.
The London-listed low-cost airline said Friday that 88 deliveries initially scheduled for a fiscal 2030 delivery will now be delivered by fiscal 2033.
"This revised agreement adjusts the delivery schedule to align with a more sustainable and profitable capacity growth trajectory," the company said, adding that it supports its targets of a 10% to 12% seat capacity growth rate into 2030.
Wizz Air said that it would also switch orders for 36 long-range A321XLRs to narrow-body A321neos, and cut its A321XLR order to 11 aircrafts--which previously was 47. Its overall 273 outstanding aircraft orders still stand, but it has simply adjusted the timeline and mix, it said.
