The project "SmartWalk" of Bercman Technologies AS has received funding with the total budget of €100,000 under the mFUND Innovation Initiative, which in turn is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure. The consortium of project partners includes NATIX GmbH, HITeC e.V., Bercman Technologies AS and Artificial Intelligence Center Hamburg. The project will start on the 1st of October 2021, with a duration of one year.

The SmartWalk project aims to develop intelligent transport infrastructure while protecting vulnerable road users such as cyclists and pedestrians. As part of the project, a smart traffic sign at a pedestrian crossing is equipped with an intelligent, data-protecting camera system using innovative artificial intelligence technologies. Using an sensor fusion of anonymised and interpreted data, "SmartWalk" detects critical traffic situations and alerts road users.

The pilot test will be carried out in Hamburg and Tallinn. As part of the project, Bercman is developing an intelligent traffic sign that detectsroad users. Together with NATIX GmbH and ARIC's know-how, an intelligent traffic infrastructure will be developed.

Successful completion of the project will open up new cooperation opportunities and sales channels for Bercman in Hamburg and Germany in general.
