MEXICO CITY, May 21 (Reuters) - Latin American e-commerce giant MercadoLibre's fintech arm, Mercado Pago, said on Tuesday it could take one to two years to obtain a banking license it is seeking in Mexico, the region's second-largest economy.

Mercado Pago's Mexico director Pedro Rivas said this time frame would run from the start of the application toward the end of the summer, as the fintech seeks to become the country's largest digital bank. (Reporting by Diego Ore and Adriana Barrera; Editing by Valentine Hilaire)
