STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Independence Holding Co. (IHC) on Thursday reported a fourth-quarter loss of $9.3 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

On a per-share basis, the Stamford, Connecticut-based company said it had a loss of 63 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were 32 cents per share.

The insurance company posted revenue of $90 million in the period.

For the year, the company reported profit of $12.4 million, or 83 cents per share. Revenue was reported as $374.4 million.

Independence Holding shares have declined 27% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $30.76, a decline of 19% in the last 12 months.
