SOTHEBY'S 2019 LONDON WINE SEASON OPENS WITH

A SUPERLATIVE SWISS CELLAR

"We are honoured to bring to auction this Superlative Swiss Cellar, a magnificent collection that combines beauty with provenance, classical foundations with star quality. In terms of vinous gems, this sale has the 'frisson factor'. The added plus is the meticulous care with which the collection has been stored, benefiting from the cold temperature of a stunning Swiss cellar. One can see at a glance that these irresistible wines have been amassed by a great and generous wine lover."

Serena Sutcliffe, M.W., Honorary Chairman, Sotheby's Wine

Sotheby's will open its 2019 London wine auctions on 23 January with A Superlative Swiss Cellar, an astonishing collection representing the very best of Bordeaux, Burgundy and beyond. Comprising almost 1,000 lots with a combined pre-sale estimate in the region of £1.5 million, the wines were kept in a cavernous cellar situated underneath the owner's property, where they benefited from ideal storage conditions.

Stephen Mould, Head of Sotheby's Wine, Europe, said: "The owner and his wife are two of the most hospitable and cultured people I have had the good fortune to meet during my time at Sotheby's. During our inspection visit, the owner showed us enormous generosity by sharing some fantastic bottles from his cellar. The wines' excellent condition was indicative of the exemplary storage conditions he has created."

The collection boasts reams of First and Second Growths, in every stage of their lives, from opulent, fruity youth, to smooth, deep middle age and, finally, to complex, venerable maturity. The range of Mouton is all-encompassing, in a vast range of formats and vintages spanning 1970 to 2003.

The show-stopping array of Bordeaux continues with runs of vintages from Latour, Margaux and Haut Brion, plus Léovilles, Pichons, Ducru Beaucaillou and Pontet Canet, Montrose and Calon Ségur.
