Sprint Responds to Hurricane Lane

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - August 23, 2018 - Sprint is closely monitoring Hurricane Lane and we've been gearing up to support our employees and customers in the area.

In addition, our network teams have staged resources such as emergency equipment and vehicles, fuel and portable generators across the impacted areas to enable rapid deployment if needed following the storm. And, we have recovery teams on stand-by to ensure personnel are available to assist with recovery efforts if needed post-storm.

Our network improvements in the past year include continued investment of new cell sites and small cell technology that help to significantly boost capacity and data speeds throughout hurricane prone areas. We installed pumps and raised the equipment platforms at flood-prone sites and added alarms at sites to help identify water intrusion and address any issues prior to equipment being impacted.

In addition, our emergency response equipment such as SatCOLTs (satellite cell sites on light truck) and VSATs (portable satellite systems) are ready to deploy, and we've been topping off fuel levels for generators, as well as checking back-up batteries at cell sites.

Sprint's Emergency Response Team has activated its 25/14 program for Hurricane Lane. This program allows Sprint to provide any local or state agency with 25 devices for 14 days at no cost. Agencies that can utilize this program include any government-operated health care facility, K-12 and higher education, social services, and first responders. State or local agencies simply need to call into Sprint's Emergency Response Team Dedicated Support Line at 888-639-0020 or email ertrequests@sprint.com to obtain the devices and get additional information.

Finally we'd like to encourage all those in the path of Hurricane Lane to use text messaging when possible in the event of high call volumes in the local area.
