MT. CRESTED BUTTE, Colo. - Jan. 7, 2019 -
After receiving nearly a foot of snow over the past 24 hours - and over eight feet of snow this season - Crested Butte Mountain Resort (CBMR) is thrilled to announce that the High Lift will open for the season today. The High Lift will provide access to portions of the Headwall and Teocalli Bowl, two zones within CBMR's famous Extreme Limits terrain. 'Our mountain operations and ski patrol teams have done a great job preparing the Headwall and Teocalli Bowl for this opening,' says Tim Baker, general manager of CBMR. 'The light density of the snow this season has required additional attention to safely open this terrain, and we are excited to provide an exceptional product with the High Lift opening.' The 2018-19 winter opening of the High Lift comes nearly seven weeks before the popular T-Bar opened last season; a testament to the great snow that Crested Butte has received this winter. Speaking of snow, OpenSnow is forecasting up to another five inches of snow through Monday in Crested Butte, enticing skiers and riders to come for soft - and steep - turns. The High Lift opening increases CBMR's open ski and snowboard terrain to 920 acres accessible by 13 lifts. The mountain operations and ski patrol teams will continue to monitor the snowpack in an effort to prepare for additional terrain openings. Skiers and riders are encouraged to stay tuned to the resort's website for snow and terrain updates: www.skicb.com/snow. All guests are reminded that they must observe all posted signs, closures and slow zones. Closed trails may contain hazards due to early snow coverage. Accessing closed terrain is a violation of the Colorado Ski Safety Act and will result in the loss of skiing privileges and could involve prosecution and a fine.
