Mr. Bhattacharya previously was Chief Finance Officer at Employees Provident Fund Organisation, Chairman-Staff Selection Commission at Government of India and Secretary of Union Public Service Commission.

Amitava Bhattacharya received an undergraduate degree from Presidency College and a graduate degree from the University of Delhi.
