While we knew of Musk's penchant for the antepenultimate letter of the Western (or Latin) alphabet, we were unaware of his obsession with this character. Let's go back in time to see that he's never hidden it.

In 1999, Elon Musk founded a financial services company he called X.com, with the ambition of turning it into a single, global banking portal. After a competitive battle, the latter merged with the nascent PayPal. From then on, Elon Musk was relentless in his attempts to change the name of the new entity, against the advice of his peers, and ultimately failed. A setback he will keep in the back of his mind.

Then came SpaceX, the space company founded in 2002, and Starlink, the satellite group born in 2018, whose logo features a huge X shooting skywards. In 2017, he (already) bought the rights to X.com from PayPal.

In 2020, Elon Musk and singer Grimes give birth to a son named X Æ A-12 (nicknamed X) and a daughter in 2022, named Exa Dark Siderael (nicknamed Y). In July 2023, he registered xAI, a company specializing in artificial intelligence, as a competitor to OpenAI. Finally, he created the entities that would oversee the new Twitter: X Corp and X holdings.

Has the circle been completed? Not for sure. It's a safe bet that the bubbling brain of the businessman still has a few surprises in store for us, along with their X.
