International stocks trading in New York closed mostly lower on Tuesday.

The S&P/BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts edged down 0.4% to 156.70. The European index ticked down 0.4% to 143.76. The Asian index lost 0.1% to 192.97. The Latin American index retreated 0.9% to 223.23, while the emerging-markets index moved up 0.1% to 329.09.

51job Inc. was among those whose ADRs traded actively.

The holding company that engages in provision of human resource services was up 8.3% after it said it would hold an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders on April 27 to consider and vote on the proposal to authorize and approve the previously announced agreement and plan of merger, among other matters.

Credit Suisse Group AG rose 3.5% despite a Bermuda court saying Tuesday that the company must pay billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili about $555 million for allowing a private banker to steal from the former Georgia prime minister and mismanage his money.
