The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) has updated the certification requirements for commodity egg products, including whole eggs and all-purpose egg mix. Beginning in May 2022, USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) will no longer certify AMS commodity egg products. As outlined by the Supplement for Egg Products dated January 2022, all vendors shall request the use of either Option A - AMS Grading-based Monitoring and Certification service, or Option B - AMS Audit-based Verification service for assessing contract compliance of the finished product. Vendors may bid on upcoming solicitations, but must transition and fully implement an AMS certification option prior to May 2022 product deliveries.

The requirements can be found in the newly revised Federal Purchase Program Specifications (FPPS) for All Purpose Egg Mix and Whole Eggs. Offerors are urged to review all documents as they pertain to this program, including the latest:

  • AMS Master Solicitation for Commodity Procurements (September 1, 2021)
  • Supplement for Egg Products
  • Federal Purchase Program Specification for All Purpose Egg Mix
  • Federal Purchase Program Specification for Whole Eggs

These documents are available on the AMS Commodity Procurement website at: https://www.ams.usda.gov/selling-food/product-specs.
