Business sentiment in Belgium deteriorated in January for the second consecutive month, according to data from the National Bank of Belgium released Tuesday.

The business confidence index decreased slightly to 2.7 in January from 3.6 in December, the lowest level since March 2021.

By sector, confidence improved among services providers, but fell in manufacturing, construction and trade, the data showed.

Optimism among the firms surveyed was more evident in expectations for general market demand and business activity, but sentiment continued to be subdued when assessing the current level of activity, the National Bank said.
