Communications-services companies ended the day nearly flat as investors shifted into more cyclical stocks.

Netflix said it has agreed to buy the Roald Dahl Story, adding popular children's stories like "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "Matilda" to its stable as it looks to stock up on content amid rising competition in the streaming business.

Shares of Entain rose in London trading after the company said it was considering an improved takeover bid valued at about $22.4 billion from DraftKings, after rejecting an earlier offer from the U.S. digital sports-betting and entertainment company as too low.

Iliad said it has agreed to acquire cable operator UPC Poland for an enterprise value of 7 billion zloty ($1.78 billion) from Liberty Global.
