Nov 2 (Reuters) - Sri Lankan shares closed lower on Wednesday, hurt by losses in consumer staple stocks.

* The CSE All-Share index closed 0.51% lower at 8,561.96, exchange data showed.

* Cigarette maker Ceylon Tobacco Company Plc and Conglomerate Carson Cumberbatch Plc were the top drags on Wednesday, falling 3.3% and 6.8%, respectively.

* Trading volume on the CSE All-Share index rose to 36.4 million shares from 33 million in the previous session.

* The equity market turnover was 1.2 billion Sri Lankan rupees ($3.31 million), according to exchange data.

* Foreign investors were net buyers, purchasing 55.7 million rupees of shares, while domestic investors were net sellers, offloading stocks worth 1.17 billion rupees, data showed.
