We are proud to continue our support of top students across North America and Australia through our paper competition, and we send our sincere thanks to all participants.

The quality of papers received was extremely high, and only the narrowest of margins separated the top papers. It really was a difficult decision picking the winners. As always, we also greatly appreciate the support and encouragement from the professors who help us reach out to these top students each year.

The winner of the 2021 Geosyntec Student Paper Competition is: Yangmo Zhu (Auburn University, Advisor: Dr. Dongye Zhao) for the paper titled 'A Novel 'Concentrate-&-Destroy' Technology for 'Green' and Cost-effective Destruction of Perfluorooctane Sulfonate in Water Using a New Adsorptive Photocatalyst.' Yangmo receives a cash prize of $1,000 USD.

Congratulations, Yangmo!

The two second place prizes of $500 each are awarded to: Kaylin McDermett (Texas Tech University, Advisor: Dr. W. Andrew Jackson) for 'The Development of a Diffusive Equilibrium, High-Resolution Passive Sampler for Measure PFAS in Groundwater and Sediments,' and Shamsunnahar Suchana (University of Toronto, Advisor: Dr. Elodie Passeport) for 'Compound Specific Isotope Analysis of NO2- and NH2-Substituted Chlorobenzenes at sub-mg/L Levels Using In Situ Polar Organic Chemical Integrative Sampler.'

Congratulations, Kaylin and Shamsunnahar!

The three third-place prizes of $300 each are awarded to: Jinyu Gao (University of California, Riverside, Advisor: Dr. Jinyong Liu) for 'Degradation of Omega-Hydroperfluorocarboxylic Acids (H-PFCAs) with Integrated Reduction and Oxidation,'

Katherine Picott (University of Toronto, Advisor: Dr. Elizabeth A. Edwards) for 'Expression and Characterization of Reductive Dehalogenases for Bioremediation,' and Bryan Heyer (University of Kansas, Advisor: Dr. J.F. Devlin) for 'Groundwater Flux Profiling of a Contaminated Fractured Rock Aquifer with an IWPVP.'

Congratulations, Jinyu, Katherine, and Bryan!
