Representing  BME

Joan Hortalá, board member of BME and Chairman of the Barcelona Stock Exchange, has been appointed President of the Federación Iberoamericana de Bolsas (FIAB) during its 38th Ordinary General Meeting, which took place on 19th and 20th September, in Punta Cana (Dominican Republic).

The Federación Iberoamericana de Bolsas comprises 21 Latin American stock exchanges. FIAB’s mission is to foster cooperation among its Members, in order to promote the development and advancement of their securities markets, cooperate with national and international entities in legislative areas, promote integration of the securities markets, stimulating interactivity among market participants and encourage the establishment of rules and procedures ensuring solvency, competence and fair information disclosure to all savers investing through Member Exchanges.

BME has presided over the World Federation of Exchanges’ (WFE) Regulation Task Force for over two years and also heads the Federation of European Stock Exchanges’ (FESE) Equity Committee.

Joan Hortalá I Arau is Professor of Economic Theory at the University of Barcelona and holds a Law Degree. He also holds several diplomas from different international universities and a PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Joan Hortalá is a member of the Real Academia de Ciencias Económicas y Financieras and of the European Mathematical Society. In the academic field, he has been Dean of the University of Economic Science of Barcelona.
